Autorenportrait
Maria Treben (1907-1991), die aus Saaz im ehemaligen Sudetengau stammende Kräuterfrau, zeigte schon in Jugendjahren Interesse an der Natur und wurde von ihrer Mutter, einer Kneipp-Anhängerin, darin auch unterstützt. Durch ihren Umgang mit der Landbevölkerung, das Lesen alter Kräuterbücher und schließlich die Begegnung mit dem Biologen Richard Willfort in den 1960er-Jahren erreichten Maria Trebens Kenntnisse über Heilkräuter eine Qualität, die große Beachtung fand.1971 hielt sie vor Kurgästen in Bad Mühllacken ihren ersten Vortrag über Heilkräuter. Pfarrer Rauscher überredete sie, ein Manuskript zu erstellen, und so kam 1976 die erste Mappe mit dem Titel Gesundheit aus der Apotheke Gottes heraus. Diese legte den Grundstein zu ihrer Berühmtheit. Maria Treben starb am 26. Juli 1991, sie liegt in Grieskirchen (Oberösterreich) begraben.
